La Esperanza
At La Esperanza there is always something happening. It seems that this is the heart (or perhaps stomach) of the reef's ecosystem. There is a feeling that on this reef it is a true struggle for survival. The maximum depth is about 70 feet with little in way of a current, however the action is not as sleepy as it sounds. Here you are able to spot anything from schooling golden trevally to amber jacks and chasing them, dolphin. This is the dive where we can also see our beloved tiger shark. They sit behind, or within the shoals of jack, close to the bottom, then you will notice the jack part company to let one of the top preditors to swim on through. Although not a guarentee, we do see them here and they are a spectacular animal!
Distracted by the thought of tiger sharks? You may have missed the fact I said dolphins, travelly and amber jacks! This is truely one of the sites where you see the pelagic world colliding with that of the reef. If you dive this site, it is a must-bring, when it comes to your stills and video. Indeed, it always seems to be a better course of action to bring both, but really, how many pairs of hands do you have?!
Due to the depth alone, this makes it one of our more experienced diving loacations, although most SCUBA diving within Cabo Pulmo is rated at an intermediate level. Truely, this is for those with experiance and who we have got to know over the course of their diving vacation. It is often the highlight of our week!
