El Islote
El Islote is fast becoming a team favorite. The pinnacle of rock comes from the bottom at about 60 feet, and rises up, out of the water to a height of about 30 feet. Its canonical shape lends itself to a perfect dive profile. You start by hitting the 60 feet mark, then gradually circumnavigate the pinnacle, (this will take about 25 minutes), then after one circumnavigation we ascend 20 feet and repeat the exercise. As it is a cone, each time we ascend, the trip around El Islote reduces.
On the bottom we see a topography of large boulders, hiding moreys, grouper and stingrays. As we ascend, you enter the reef and enjoy a nice wall dive where you can consentrate on the invertebrate life on the edge, or look out into the blue to see schools of pompano playing in the water column and on the surface. This dive has a little of everything, stunning underwater scenery, multitudes of fish species and very little current. You could select three dives back-to-back on this small island and you will experience something new each and every time.
